Travel Grants for attending

ATBC-ASIA PACIFIC CHAPTER MEETING - 2019, SRI LANKA

10 th to 13 th September 2019

The organizing committee of ATBC-ASIA PACIFIC CHAPTER MEETING - 2019 is expecting to offer a limited number of grants to cover the costs of attending the meeting in Sri Lanka. These grants are to help increase attendance of participants from developing countries to the annual meeting by providing funds for those in financial need. ATBC is committed to advancing diversity in its community; and applicants from all genders and cultures, and other traditionally under-represented groups, are encouraged to apply for these grants. All grants are REIMBURSEMENT of expenditures, which will be distributed to the winning applicants who will appear in person at the reception of the conference.

Well-wishers and donor agencies affiliated to the organizing committee have made following grant schemes available for application. If you or your organization is willing to sponsor students from your country or initiate a felicitation grant scheme, please write to atbc.apsl2019@gmail.com

Sponsorships from Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment for Indian Students

Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment has made available a few sponsorships preferably for Indian students attending ATBC-ASIA PACIFIC CHAPTER MEETING - 2019 in Sri Lanka. These grants will help to cover the registration fees of the meeting.


Eligibility Criteria

  1. Preferably an Indian student affiliated with an organization based in India
  2. Be the presenting author of an abstract accepted for making a presentation at ATBC-ASIA PACIFIC CHAPTER MEETING - 2019, SRI LANKA
  3. Be a member of the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation (membership can be as low as USD 25 for students and those from developing countries are eligible to receive a USD 50 discount on registration fees; become a member at https://tropicalbiology.org/join-atbc/)
  4. Have fully paid the registration fees on or before the early-bird registration deadline (If selected, the award amount will be reimbursed at the registration desk)
  5. Demonstrate previous research work relevant to tropical biology and/or conservation (grants, publications in peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations)

Conditions

  1. This grant is offered for covering the registration fees (early-bird student) and does not include transport, accommodation, banquet and any other associated costs.

How to Apply

  • Submit the prescribed application form including the following as a SINGLE PDF FILE to atbc.apsl2019@gmail.com (Use ‘Application for ATREE Grants’ as the subject of your email)
    1. statement justifying your need to receive a grant
    2. proof of your studentship endorsed by your supervisor and copy of a valid student identity card issued by your institute
    3. a short outline of your ongoing research
    4. curriculum vitae (maximum two pages including previous awards, education,publications, research activities and further information relevant)
    5. official invoice of registration for the conference
    6. evidence of ATBC membership
  • Application for sponsorships does not guarantee that all applicants will be selected among the limited number of sponsorship awardees.
  • Deadline for application is 31 July 2019, applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered for awarding grants.

Selection Procedure and Results

  • The organizing committee will evaluate the applications and select candidates for awarding sponsorships.
  • Both successful and unsuccessful applicants will be informed of the results by 7 August 2019.

Prof. Peter Ashton Felicitation Grant for Sri Lankan Students

Prof. Peter Ashton Felicitation Grant scheme has been made available by a group of well-wishers and alumni of Professors Nimal Gunatilleke and Savitri Gunatilleke, which will be awarded in recognition of the popularization of ecological science by Prof. Peter Ashton in Sri Lanka. These grants will be awarded to Sri Lankan students to cover their registration fees of the meeting.


Eligibility Criteria

  1. Be a Sri Lankan student affiliated with an organization based in Sri Lanka
  2. Be the presenting author of an abstract accepted for making presentation at ATBC-ASIA PACIFIC CHAPTER MEETING - 2019, SRI LANKA
  3. Have fully paid the registration fees on or before the early-bird registration deadline (If selected, the award amount will be reimbursed at the registration desk)
  4. Demonstrate previous research work relevant to tropical biology and/or conservation (grants,publications in peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations)
  5. Willingness to act as volunteers to help organizing some activities during the meeting
